Mahadevan 3) David Kinsley 0 – Pre-Vedic I – Vedic Hinduism (7000 – 4000 BC) II – Classical Hinduism – this is of primary focus in this class, however to understand this we need to learn about the others III – Medieval Hinduism IV – Modern Hinduism The Indus Valley, now called the Mehgarh VEDIC HINDUISM: -Will Durant: He wrote “The Story of Civilization” – started with 20 th century T he Durants strove throughout The Story of Civilization to create what they called "integral history". Their goal was to write a "biography" of a civilization, in this case, the West, including not just the usual wars, politics and biography of greatness and villainy, but also the culture, art, philosophy, religion, and the rise of mass communication. Much of The Story considers the living conditions of everyday people throughout the twenty-five hundred years their "story" of the West covers. Vedas – earliest scriptures that are decipherable (we don’t know about the scriptures of the Indus…we can’t decipher it, it may have preceded the Vedas)
