Lecture 10 Bhisma and Drona sides with Kaurvas…They say we know your cause is right Pandavas but we’ve lived with them all our life. Karna also sides with the Kaurvas Krishna has to make a decision, because he’s related to both parties. He will give his army to one party and himself to another side. Bhisma says We’ll see about that Krishna you not raising a weapon… Krishna gets angry and lifts a weapon ISH. Arjuna’s eyes are brimming with tears as he throws his bow and refuses to fight. Krishna says this is the behavior of an impotent. .snap out. Krishna says seek refuge in me… Finally Arjuna sees the light and says AH ok I’m ready. First commander of Kauravas is Bhisma…remember he can’t die because he had a boon with the Gods.One day in the battle, bhisma gest annoyed over something and takes a vow that tomorrow he will wipe out all the 5 Pandavas. Passages are very “Homeric” . In fact there are explanations of Homer in reference to Hinduism. Krishna tells Drowpadi to go and take Bhisma’s sandals. Women’s hands are tender… Bhisma says “may good fortune remain forever”…code for may your husbands never get windowed. She starts crying and says you’ve taken a vow on killing all the brothers and now you’ve blessed me. It’s a trick by Krishna. Bhisma says this is what you should do.
