The list of six orthodox schools are called the saddarsanas Orthodox schools accept the validity of the Vedas Though authors within the schools may have some views in common, not all thinkers within the darsanas share the same opinions Common feature amongst schools: ancient Theme of antiquity runs across all the philosophical schools All schools deal with concept of moksa and karma All schools speak about the means of valid knowledge - pramana eg. Perception, inference, verbal testimony, SAMKHYA - The 'enumeration' school Kapila Posts duality between matter (prakrti) and self (purusa) - both are real, though ontologically distinct Oldest system philosophy to emerge in Hindu tradition Samkhya means enumeration/calculation Samkhya doesn't believe in God Both matter and the selves are ultimately real Prakrti evolves into 24 Tativas/principles for the enjoyment of the purusas
