Hilliard 258-10-0169 July 5, 2010-October 22, 2010 MG 665 Lesson#10, Assignment 5 Study the case, "McArthur Place" on pages 210-213 of the text Management Communication: Principles and Practice (3 rd Edition). 1.Is Carolyn’s request to quietly cover John’s phone bills unethical? Yes, Carolyn’s request to Emily is unethical. Her request violates many of Goodpaster’s ethical imperatives including: avoiding and preventing harming others, respecting the rights of others, and avoiding lying and cheating. Carolyn and her department oversee the invoices for phone charges. Carrie handles the deposits and Emily oversees all of the company’s financial operations. Carolyn’s request could potentially harm the reputation of herself and her co- workers, because they would also have to lie about the phone charges. 2. Does the case suggest that John has in fact been treated unfairly? According to Carolyn, Kelly has treated John unfairly due to his age. She believes that Kelly intimidates him, because he is younger than the other staff members. However, according to the
