First Book EDP 256 Catania My book that I chose to use for the First Book Assignment was The Gingerbread Man . The first thing that I noticed when I walked in the building was that the Kindergarten classes were doing a unit on that specific book. Even though I was in a preschool classroom I knew right then that it was a developmentally appropriate book that the school uses in the curriculum each year. I also remember doing a unit on the book The Gingerbread Man when I was in Kindergarten. I think that this particular book has a lot of educational values embedded within the text and is also a fun book that children can read with others. The repetition within it (“Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the Gingerbread Man”) made it fun to read because the child can help to tell the story. During center time I called over the child who I chose (with the help of my classroom teacher) and asked if he wanted to read a story with me. He was very excited and agreed.
