Travis Whyte Eng 1010 9/20/7007 Subwoofers are designed for reproducing a specific range of frequencies, generally around 20-100Hz. The subwoofer output on receivers will send only these low-frequency signals to the subwoofer. Since the sub specializes in this small range, and does not transmit the other frequencies, it can produce a lower sound. “If you hear before you see me, I got king kong in the trunk.” This is a line from a song that describes the trunk of my car. The Subs in my car are 2 ten inch Kenwood subwoofers. They are set in a grey hatchback style box with a Rockford-Fosgate 500 watt amp. An amplifier's job is to take a signal from a source (input) and make it larger (gain). The hard part is amplifying the signal without adding any distortion. Amps must have a power supply strong enough to keep them going and must store enough power or current to deliver all of the frequencies in the music.
