1 Arthur Begtine McIntyre English 1102 January 30 th , 2010 Digital Nation The World has changed greatly since the turn of the century… Change is coming at an unprecedented pace, especially in the digital world. This ‘‘digital’’ world is nothing more than the cyber world and the world of technology. Many people are getting addicted to technology, they rely on it on an everyday basis and many things that we used to be able to do by hand or physically are being digitalized. The internet is creating a new and unexplored world full of possibilities. The documentary Digital Nation, Life on the Virtual Frontier goes in depth and looks at the ever improving technology and how it’s changing and helping to shape the world of today, and the world of tomorrow. Technology has improved so much in the last few years that many people cannot work without it. Papers used to be handwritten and documents and texts used to be read out of textbooks in the days many of our parents were going to high school or college. This new technology is not always good as it can be a distraction to many students. An example of that was seen in the documentary Digital Nation, Life on the Virtual Frontier when interviews done at M.I.T in Massachusetts showed that many teachers believed that students wrongly believed that they were ‘‘great at multi-tasking’’ ( Digital Nation, Life on the Virtual Frontier , Dir. PBS. 2009-2010. Documentary). Many experts believe that this need to multi-task and constantly be in touch with the cyber world is coming from the users addiction to it.
