Concordia University Introduction to Acting May 2009 TPER 201 Liz Valdez Office Hours [email protected] By appointment 514-848-2424 Course Objective The overall objective of this course is to introduce students to basic acting skills for the stage. In this process, enlivening and developing the imagination is key, as is creative play in the sense of the French expression le jeu . The underlying philosophy of the course is that engaging in a selection of the exercises and activities of student actors will stimulate the creative process of each student, and that this, in turn, might bring a more creative approach to other disciplines in a student’s global education. Students will have the opportunity to develop a further awareness of their physical, intellectual, emotional and imaginative selves through the potentially transformative aspects of an actor’s training. A further goal of the course is to give students the opportunity to perform before a select audience and to make discoveries about how to encounter and connect to an audience. Learning Outcomes By the end of the course students will have an awareness of how to do the following: work in an ensemble improvise begin to analyse text (monologue + neutral text) develop character through making specific choices create a specific space perform in an outcome before a select audience Course Structure The course is divided into two interrelated activities, the
