Yasser Naal December 8, 2010 PSYCH 3305 The Significance of Stages in Life Life is something which has been questioned for as long as it has existed. We, human beings, were given a mind which drives us to inquire as much knowledge as possible about a specific matter. Many psychologists have tried to figure out just why exactly we are on earth. It seems as if every other species has a purpose except for human beings. All other insects, animals, etc. have a duty to help the environment, but people have a choice which makes us not always beneficial. As a result, many Psychologists including Erik Erickson have tried to break down life in different stages so we all get a better understanding of our purpose in our actions and why we are here living this life. The stages of development were introduced by Erick Erickson which helps us determine specific behaviors at a specific age. He simply defined how life is lived in eight simple stages. These stages are: Trust vs. Mistrust, Autonomy vs. Shame, Initiative
