Yasser Naal December 19, 2010 PHIL 4415 Final Exam Dear Governor Perdue, My name is Yasser Naal and I am currently a junior enrolled at Kennesaw State University. I am writing you this letter hoping to reach out to you about a specific topic which has been bothering me for quite some time. I want to discuss the Prison Industrial Complex and its’ effect on our society. I am sure you are aware that Georgia has the fifth highest inmate population in the country and seems to be on the rise every year. The majority of these convictions are non-violent drug related charges which costs our state over $1 billion a year. Not to mention, it costs more to keep an inmate in prison than it does to send a student off to college; that is something very serious to consider. Also, the over population of prisons has caused many private companies to operate prisons themselves for a hefty profit. Our state government simply does not have enough space or funds required to afford all the civilians it is throwing in prisons. So
