Yasser Naal Psychology 3305 Exam #2 Short Answer Questions #1: Examine the effects of long-term and extreme stress on children's ability to learn. What brain structures are involved? How are they affected by stress? Answer:  Stress is the same feeling no matter what age you are. It is a natural feeling we encounter when dealing with a critical and tough situation. It also occurs in other species such as animals. Stress in children is a huge misfortune because they are only children and should not have to encounter such a feeling. Short term stress is much different from long term and is far less severe. Long term stress is a repetitive pattern which continuously happens to the body signaling extra burden to the body. Long term stress will eventually cause manifestations such as: chronic head ache, mood swings, anxiety disorder, substance abuse, memory disturbances, and heart attack due increased blood pressure. #2: What are some of the gross motor skills that most 5-year-olds have mastered?
