How did “Christian-Muslim conflict, international commerce, sugar, and New World incursions” lead to the enslavement of Africans? o The Christian –Muslim conflict for control over the empire began both sides reliance on slaves. Each side would take captured war victims and use them as slaves. As time went on and the wars began to subside their reliance on slaves was set but their supply dried up. With a lack of slaves in the surrounding areas they had to go looking for new sources of labor. Around the same time the emergence of sugar came into the economy and brought another need for labor. The Italians and Portuguese wanted to cut out the Muslim middle men for production so they began exploring the coast of West Africa. Here they found the labor they were looking for as well as a new good, Gold. 2. What role did epidemiology, the spread of disease in a population, play in the enslavement of Africans? What other factors made Africans the best candidate
