Students who can thoroughly accomplish the following tasks will be successful on this examination. - Identify and describe the major characteristics of the two theories of prison management. - Identify the scholar who developed the institutional control theory and describe the theory in depth - Describe the benefit of inmate labor to the inmate and the prison, and describe the different types of jobs inmates can have (i.e. institutional work assignments, prison industry) - Describe the guard subculture - Define boundary violations, understand the characteristics of guards who engage in boundary violations, and the situational contexts that provide the opportunity for boundary violations to occur - Understand what characteristics of guards and the job are related to officer stress, and why they increase/decrease officer stress
