Psyc 227 Introduction to Statistics Dr. Fairchild Review Guide for Exam #3 SECTION 1: Statistical Errors and Effect Size 1) Know how a given alpha level relates to the amount of chance results that you are willing to tolerate in a study. 2) Be able to define and distinguish type 1 and type 2 errors. Know under what conditions it is possible for each to occur. 3) Understand the logic of statistical hypothesis testing--- being probabilistic--- and how that translates into your confidence of results. 4) Be able to identify criticisms of null hypothesis significance testing. 5) Differentiate practical versus statistical significance. 6) Understand how sample size affects statistical significance of a result. Section 2: One-sample tests 1) Understand what differentiates the one sample z-test from the one sample t-test. 2) Be able to read the description of a problem and identify what test is appropriate to answer the research question. 3)
