Americans should pay taxes to re-fill the Treasury -Americans are benefitting so they have to put more money back into the Treasury C. This is quite reasonable on your part II. 1764 Sugar Act Why Sugar? -most Americans were farmers -sugar cane good for trade and sell -some places where currency was shy whiskey, or moonshine, were a source of currency III. 1764 Stamp Act -seal on paper not actual stamp -wedding, buy or sell something needing legal stamp -newspaper -tax on any type of formal paper work IV. Tea Tax -taxed luxury goods: tea, fine glass -really affected the middle class, something that the middle class could really afford prior to tax. Especially for families who didn’t drink alcohol for religious reasons. -tax that ticked off everyone V. Navigation Act -triangular trade market. Many islands were owned by Spain not Britain. -British didn’t want Americans trading with others -Didn’t allow trade from America to American islands -only trade with Britain -Americans now have to pay more money VI.
