Appositive Phrases 2. The model, a tall thin blonde with a long mane and long legs , walked down the runway, while eyeing the audience. The baseball player, a large brute with a handlebar mustache and tobacco in his cheek , hit a homerun, while spitting his chew. 3. A fascinating historical speaker , Professor Southwick has visited many museums, and at every visit the curators want him to give another lecture. An accomplished performer , Stevie Ray has visited many venues to give a concert, and at every show the audience wants him to play another song. 4. A black striped tiger, a largish one with four-inch fangs , prowled through the jungle, stopped, crouched, and pounced on its prey in an instant. The magazine showed a photograph of an old artifact , a rusted-out, dust-covered music box playing a long forgotten tune as an old singer would sing an old song. A stuttering man , he stood nervously on the front of the stage, looked at the people in the audience who were whispering and laughing with each other. 5. A) When the tyrannosaur roared, it was a terrifying sound, a bellow from the pits of hell . B) In appearance, he was the embodiment of every parent’s dream, a muscular, sharply dressed and well-tempered boy with promise and dashing looks.

COMPOSITION Manic depression or bipolar disorder, a disorder that causes the person with the disease to experience periods of mania and depression, is a psychological disease. Periods of mania, the psychological “highs,” are characterized by high self-esteem, the lack of need for sleep, eating disorders, agitation, and reckless behavior. Periods of depression, the psychological “lows,” are characterized by sadness, lack of appetite, loss of self- esteem, withdrawal from friends, and suicidal thoughts. A very serious condition, manic depression also leads to higher rates of suicide. A high risk to alcohol and drugs is also a threat due to each phase of manic depression, mania and depression. As the disease is psychological, a disorder in the mind, the only effective way to diagnose a patient with bipolar disorder is to ask questions about, family history, mood
