Jonathon Logan Jordan Final Exam Essay Immanuel Wallerstein Group 10-27-10 Sociology is a science and an academic discipline that studies human socialization, social patterns within society, and social interaction between people. First and foremost, Sociology is a science and an academic discipline meaning evidence must be empirical by gathering it using senses such as sight or smell. Being a science, Sociology’s primary goal is to understand the social aspects of our world, why humans socialize, and to understand social patterns. Through understanding, Sociologist’s try to establish facts relating to society and how it works. Once these social facts are established, a community of scholar’s must check to prove these facts and theories. Finally all of this must be understood in a disciplined manner, meaning one must set aside his or her biases when doing the research in order to attain only facts.
