EVOLUTION OF FORMAL ORGANIZATIONS PAPER 2 Evolution of Formal Organizations Paper Running an organization is hard at best; it takes a lot of decisions through many stages and people to make it work in today’s market. The building and running of an organization has changed and evolved over and over. When trying to decide how to run a business, whether it is to be strict and formal, or open and more flexible relies heavily on the actual business and people running the actual business. Whether a formal or a flexible business is formed, both methods have been proven to be effective, although in different ways according to the business and the times at hand and what is going on in the economy. Mankind has been using forms of organizational structure since man has had the ability of rational thought. Organizational structure has been a part of the human race even when man did not know they were doing so. By placing people in specific rolls, with specific duties, and rules, even choosing individuals for leadership roles while man was still living in small bands organizational structures were being formed. This has followed mankind throughout the ages and has continued to evolve and develop into the structures seen today. And yet organizational structures are continually changing to this day, as well as organizations continually look to the future and how they can better the organizational structures they already have. (Shipm, F. 2007), Healthcare organizations are implementing and developing upper level leadership positions for the ever growing aging work force. As the workforce grows older in large numbers, organizations have to make accommodations and new positions for these people who are rapidly approaching retirement. By doing this these organizations not only help the economy by providing jobs to those who may otherwise be out of work, but also their organizations by utilizing the knowledge and expertise of those older people. For decades organizations were run under one structure and that
