Edeh Research skill is a necessary for students because of the importance of research in the studies of all areas of human endeavor – the pure sciences, social sciences, medical and the field of education. The term “Information Literacy is not just a recent buzzword but it underscores the way we live in the digital age. The term Information Literacy” implies the ability to recognize the extent and nature of information needed, then to locate, evaluate, and effectively use the information (ACRL, 1989). The final report from the “Presidential Committee on Information Literacy” stated that “information literate people are those who have learned how to learn” (Final Report, p.1). The paper went on to say that information literate people fall into the category of people who have the ability to sort knowledge, retrieve information and use it to influence the way others think or act (ACRL Final Report, p.1).
