COM 220 “Illegal immigration is exactly what it is, Illegal” I. The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) A. These laws were put in place to ensure the jobs for the people who are authorized to work in the United States. 1. The illegal immigrants come here for those jobs to escape a poverty of their own country. B. The IRCA prohibits any employer from knowingly hiring or recruiting those who are not authorized to work in the United States. 1. Many companies have been caught hiring immigrants to work for decreased salaries than that of United States citizens. C. All employers are required to verify both the identity and employment eligibility of all regular, temporary, casual, and student employees hired after November 6, 1986, and complete and retain a one-page form (INS Form I-9) documenting this verification. 1. Many employers manipulate the laws to gain the employment of cheaper workers. II. Stopping Illegal Immigration A. Americans for Legal Immigration (ALI-PAC) is fighting against illegal immigration and amnesty for illegal aliens. 1.
