Abdullah Abed 803697484 Life Sciences 2 Section 2G Michelle Kim 01.07.10 Scientific Methodology Introduction: The Memory Inference Test (MIT) is a computer program that tests subject’s memory using visual and auditory signals. In addition to testing subject’s memory, MIT includes a demographic survey which asks questions about the subject’s mental and physical states at the time of the test, along with information about his or her age, education level and background. Students enrolled Life Science 2 course in UCLA have been the primary subjects of the MIT test. After I have taken the MIT test myself, I decided to investigate the effects of sleep on memory. The result of the MIT test of sleep hours on memory will be significant to me since I do not get eight hours of sleep, and I am eager to find out how lack of sleep affects an individual’s memory. My hypothesis for this experiment is the following: people who have slept for adequate hours and people who have not slept for adequate hours before taking the MIT test should perform differently because sleeping has a direct correlation with a person’s memory. In this experiment, I investigate the effect of shortage of sleep hours on a person’s memory by using statistical test such as a t-test to determine whether I can reject my null hypothesis:

Individuals who have obtained sufficient hours of sleep and individuals who have not obtained sufficient hours of sleep prior to the MIT test should function equally in the MIT test.
