What is a Hazardous Waste? Regulated under RCRA Subtitle C According to Subtitle C, there are 2 “types” of hazardous wastes 1. Appears on one of 4 hazardous wastes lists (see website) F-list: non-specific source wastes Spent halogenated solvents like PCE, TCE, CT, etc. Spent non-halogenated solvents like acetone, ethyl acetate, etc. K-list: source-specific wastes Wastes from specific industries such as petroleum refining, pesticide manufacture, paint production, etc. P-list: discarded commercial chemical products (inorganic) Specific chemicals like arsenic oxide, tetraethyl lead, KCN, etc. U-list: discarded commercial chemical products (organic) Specific chemicals like DDT, creosote, formaldehyde, etc.

What is a Hazardous Waste? 2. Exhibits at least one of the following characteristics Ignitability Ignitable wastes can create fires under certain conditions, are spontaneously combustible, or have flash points less than 60 o C. Examples include waste oils and used solvents.
