Baker Date: 09/09/2010 Subject: OUT OF THE BOOK AND INTO THE BUSINESS WORLD The second and sixth modules of the Professional Communication text Business Communication: Building Critical Skills covered a lot of information on addressing one’s audience appropriately and creating a “you-attitude” when addressing someone in a professional setting. The second module discussed several things including: Types of audiences : primary (who decides or acts on the basis of your message), secondary (who may be asked to comment on your message or to implement your ideas after they’ve been approved), initial (who routes the messages to other audiences after receiving it first), gatekeeper (who controls whether or not the message is delivered to the primary audience), and watchdog (who have political, social, or economic power and may base future actions on their evaluation of your message) The process in which information is passed from one person to another :
