Like the federal government, the State of Colorado’s government is organized into three branches: the legislative, executive, and judicial. Like all states, the state’s government is the product of three major documents, the Unites States Constitution, the State Constitution, and the laws of the pertaining state. The legislative body is also known as the General Assembly and consists of a “65- member House of Representatives and a 35-member Senate” (Colorado's Kids and Students page - Government and Current events, 2004). An election for the members of the House of Representatives are held every two years and one half of the Senate. The executive branch consist of the Governor and four other elected officers, the lieutenant governor, secretary of the state, state treasurer, and the attorney general. These five officers of the state are in charge of the 19 executive departments. These departments ranged from health and education to agriculture and highways. The Colorado court system consist of the state supreme court, the state’s court of appeals, judicial districts, county and municipal courts. Each of these courts are responsible for hearing civil action, misdemeanor and felony cases that occur within their districts. The jurisdiction,
