Dao Thi-Anh Nguyen Sociology 101 Essay 1 4/28/2010 One of the Most Important Social Theories: Conflict Theory. In fact, most people believe that they fully understand the “conflict theory”, however the theory has d eeper meanings that the major does not understand . In general, conflict theory is a social theory which emphasizes a person's or group's ability to exercise influence and control over others, thereby affecting social order. According to Society textbook, “The social-conflict is a framework for building theory that sees society as an arena of inequality that generates conflict and change.” In another word, it posits that individuals and groups struggle to maximize their benefits, inevitably contributing to social changes such as innovations in politics to outright revolutions. It has the roots in the critical theory of Karl Marx and the interpretive sociology of Max Weber. Karl Marx is regarded as the father of conflict theory, and the idea of human society. Communism is the modern day incarnation of Marx ideal human society. Central to the
