Introduction The original objective of this project is to estimate the mean batting average of all the Major League Baseball players in the 2010 season. However, not everyone had the same opportunity to bat throughout 2010. For example, the American League’s pitchers do not need to bat because of the rule is different from the National League. If the sample contains some pitchers, there are going to lower the estimated batting average. So, the objective is changed to estimate the mean batting average of the “active” batting players who had at least 50 batting appearance in 2010. There are total 553 MLB players, 245 players from the American League and 308 from the National League, who satisfy this requirement, and then using the stratified sampling to sample.
