Nydia Elise Hernandez History 2111 Mr. Piecuch 21 Sept 2009 Voyage to America It is March 5, 1634, and tomorrow I am leaving for the colony of Massachusetts Bay. I am Nathaniel Smith, the son of displaced English farmers, and a devout Puritan. I am going to the Massachusetts Bay colony in hopes of starting a new life for me and my family. I have a beautiful wife named Sarah and two healthy sons. My hopes are to go to Massachusetts and find a puritan religious haven, safe towns, education for my sons and enough food to support my family. I have the option of going to Virginia but with all the talk of Indian raids, unhealthy living conditions, and not a strong religious center I don’t think Virginia is the place for me and my family. It is my hopes that I will be able to go to the New England colony in Massachusetts with my family and be accepted into the community and church. My family and I are devout puritans who closely follow the word of the Lord. It would be nice to be in a community with your peers who value the importance of God and to be able to worship him freely. After a while I will join the council so I can vote on important issues in the community like schools, roads, and poor relief. I just know that going to the Massachusetts Bay colony will the best thing for my family and their religious well being.
