TAO GUO MHR 318 6:00-7:50PM(MW) CH5-Reflection: Motivation is the inner power or energy that pushes toward acting, performing actions and achieving. Motivation strengthens the ambition, increases initiative and gives direction, courage, energy and the persistence to follow one's goals. A motivated person takes action and does whatever it needs to achieve his or her goals. Drives are hardwired characteristics of the brain that correct deficiencies or maintain an internal equilibrium by producing emotions to energize individuals. Maslow's needs hierarchy theory that has influenced a number of different fields, including education. This wide influence is due in part to the high level of practicality of Maslow's theory. Maslow has set up a hierarchy of five levels of basic needs. They are self-actualization, esteem, belongingness, safety, and physiological. McClelland’s theory states that human behavior is affected by three needs - Need for Power, Achievement and Affiliation. Need for achievement
