We can definitively conclude that enrollment is gradually increasing at US colleges annually, and by the year 2012 it should be close to 8,860,000. The p-value is less than .01, so the evidence is greatly in favor of an increasing relationship between year and enrollment. Thus, Amazon can confidently assume that by the year 2012 college enrollment will have increased by some amount. They should expect a proportional increase in revenue from the introduction of the Academic Kindle (AK). The sample proportion of students who would purchase both the “lease” and the “buy” options is 22.9%. Thus, we estimate with 95% confidence that the proportion of the entire population should fall between 13.1% and 32.6%. Similarly, the sample proportion of students who would only purchase the “lease” option is 36.2%, and the population proportion should fall between 26.4% and 45.9%. The sample proportion of students who would only purchase the “buy” option is 14.3%, and the population proportion should fall between 4.6% and 24.1%.
