Michael Walton from The Center for Transportation Research at The University of Texas at Austin report that 34,000 students and staff with parking permits at their college share less than 16,000 parking spaces. The stiff competition for parking spots results in the campus police issuing thousands of parking tickets each year. Austin’s growth has limited The University of Texas at Austin’s ability to expand outward. However, with the space it has left, the university continues to add classrooms and office buildings allowing for little to no space for additional parking on campus. Therefore, the university must find alternative ways to meet its student and faculty parking demand.
