There must be no net forces or torques acting on the body. A torque applied by a force is defined as that force times its lever arm. The lever arm of a force is the perpendicular distance between the point of application of the force and the axis about which that force would rotate. For example, for part I when trying to figure out the equilibrium and torque, the forces on each side were very close in values, therefore one can conclude that the forces can cancel thus creating a very small % difference value. Introduction: The concept of torque is seen in many aspects of life. Torque is the tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis or fulcrum. When studying equilibrium of rigid bodies, they may either rotate (twist or turn about an axis) or translate (move in a straight line). In order to keep an object in equilibrium, rotational or translational, the sum of the forces acting on the object must be zero. A body at rest moving with a constant velocity is said to be in equilibrium if it remains at rest or continues to move with the same velocity.
