part 2 with the metal bar with the mounted protractors. In order to do this, both translational and rotational equilibrium must be maintained. There must be no net forces or torques acting on the body. A torque applied by a force is defined as that force times its lever arm. The lever arm of a force is the perpendicular distance between the point of application of the force and the axis about which that force would rotate. For example, for part I when trying to figure out the equilibrium and torque, the forces on each side were very close in values, therefore one can conclude that the forces can cancel thus creating a very small % difference value. Introduction: The concept of torque is seen in many aspects of life. Torque is the tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis or fulcrum. When studying equilibrium of rigid bodies, they may either rotate (twist or turn about an axis) or translate (move in a straight line). In order to keep an object in equilibrium, rotational or translational, the sum of the forces acting on the object must be zero. A body at rest moving with a constant velocity is said to be in equilibrium if it remains at rest or continues to move with the same velocity. Theory:
