Chemical Equations: Percent yield= (Amount Recovered/ Amount started with) x 100 Procedure: 1. Measured 2.0 grams of Benzoic acid 2. Dissolved of solute using a minimum amount of hot solvent 3. Filtered Benzoic acid to remove solids through filtration of the hot solution 4. Crystallized solid from the solution as it cools 5. Collected the purified solid by filtration 6. Washed the crystals with an appropriate solvent to remove impurities 7. Dried the crystals Calculations: Percent yield= (.84 grams purified Benzoic Acid/ 1.97 grams Benzoic Acid) x 100 = 42.64% Results/ Conclusion
