ENC 2300 4/24/09 MWF 8:00-8:50 Guidelines to Being a Gentleman Living in today’s society, it is not enough for a black man to be just living in it. He must have a certain set of rules that he must abide by. Today there are two sets of rules, the street’s rules and then society’s rules. In the article “No More Macho,” William July pretty much sums up the downfall of black men in today’s society in one word, pride. He believes that men should accept the fact that one is only a man, they should also get in touch with God, and incorporate love into one’s life. For me, I believe that men should keep that in mind but also keep these three things in mind. My three guidelines to being a gentlemen more so a man is: always treat women with respect, know your goals in life and where you want to be in five to ten years, and get a good education. The first of the guidelines knowing how to accept that one is only a man. I believe that men have to realize that having too much pride can literally kill them or anyone else. Everyone is
