1 Homework # 5 ECO 7427 Prof. Sarah Hamersma Due Monday, April 11, 2011 (in class) 1. This problem will give you some experience with estimating duration models. It is based on Wooldridge Ch. 20 question 2, but I have modified it for our purposes. For each of these, please include your Stata commands in your writeup so that I know what you did. a) Carefully read Wooldridge pp. 697-699 to familiarize yourself with the dataset recid.dta and to remind yourself how to interpret duration model output. Replicate Table 20.1 (on page 698) to verify that you understand what was estimated. [Note: because there is censoring, when you first introduce the duration variable to Stata you should type the following: “stset durat, failure(cens=0)”. This tells Stata that you only know the failure date (i.e. end of the duration) for those who are uncensored. Then you can use the “streg” command – it will take some examination of the streg help file to figure out how to get your estimates in the same form as the table.] b) Using this same Weibull model, add the variables super (=1 if release from prison was supervised) and
