Running Head: Wild Dog Company Process Improvement Plan 3 P ROCESS I MPROVEMENT P LAN I NTRODUCTION Coffee is a fundamental component of the food culture in the United States (Jones, 2019). In the past few years, new trends in the coffee industry has occurred that has drastically changed the industry in several ways. There has been a growing trend of offering a variety of coffee beverages through a wide choice of specialty drinks (Jones, 2019). The drinks can range from your classic hot, black coffee to iced beverages or even coffee shakes. The Wild Dog Coffee Company Is a locally owned coffee shop in which offers a large selection of espresso products and a limited menu for breakfast, lunch, and evening. The owners of the company have decided to expand their business by opening a second location. At the new location, the owners would like to provide different menu items than their first location; however, they would like for the expresso beverage preparation process to remain the same. Before the move, Wild Dog Coffee Company would like to document and refine the expresso beverage preparation. P ROCESS I DENTIFICATION Wild Dog Coffee Company would like to decrease their customer wait times to improve their customer experience. This process improvement plan of refining and documenting the expresso beverage will create a uniformed procedure for the second location to achieve their goal of decreasing customer wait times. This process includes the ordering of the expresso beverage as well as the workflow process required to produce the product to the customer(s) in a timely manner. The expresso process improvement plan describes how the procedure will be analyzed in order to continually monitor and improve production efforts. The plan will be followed iteratively throughout the company’s lifecycle and includes all processes involved with the production of expresso beverages. The beverage preparation will remain the same, however the workflow when preparing the beverages will be improved. What I will discuss is the workstation setup and the ordering system. W ORKSTATION E RGONOMICS It is vital to make sure the workstation is set up efficiently so that the barista can move swiftly in a safe manner. There are many ways a barista can harm themselves if they do not have a proper workstation setup. Figure one displays each way a barista can harm themselves on the job. The possibilities of harm that can be caused to a barista includes, but not limited to dehydration, cardiovascular health, stress on the lower back, wrist injuries, neck strain, elbow strain, and stress on
