EKIN 3200 Sports Administration II 4/12/10 Jake Sebastian Recruiting – nationally and internationally Mr. Joseph Morrone This article talks about how Hasheem Thabeet was recruited internationally from Tanzania. At the end of recruiting, he got the visit the president, meet people wearing UConn shirts and had a number 34 jersey ready to wear. This helps the program because it shows that UConn wants to win and cares about developing its players into a better person on and off the court. Thabeet left UConn early to enter the NBA draft at the end of his junior year, the time that he thought he would be most valuable as a draft pick. Even though many thought he was far behind in his basketball game, assistant coach Andrea LaFleur saw drastic improvement in months, which eventually led to Thabeet being put in the starting line up. Question – How do you weigh the cost/benefits of getting an international player that is still learning the game and do you think that it less competition to get the player is a big reason?
