2 Violating Social Norms In Malaysia, the most common Indian food among Malaysians is rice and Indian dishes and curries served on a banana leaf instead of a plate. Known commonly just as banana leaf rice, you can find it in almost all Indian restaurants in Malaysia. The regular way of eating banana leaf rice is using your hands and at the end of your meal as a sign of respect, the most appropriate thing to do is to fold the banana leaf into half so that no one can see your left over’s. For the purpose of this critical thinking assignment I decided to go for banana leaf food during lunch on 3 rd June 2011 and violate two social norms of eating banana leaf. Firstly I was going to have my banana leaf lunch using a folk and a spoon and at the end of my lunch I was going to leave my banana leaf unfolded. A friend of mine, Eliza Benjamin helped me observe the reaction of others who were dining at the same restaurant. Firstly we ordered our food.
