12/04/2010 Identifying Plant pigments by Chromatography Sanad Bitar Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to identify the type of pigments that are found in green leaf extracts from spinach. This is done by calculating the Rf values of the pigments that travel through the chromatography paper using the formula Rf= Dx (distance a component travels)/ Ds (Distance the solvent travels).
