Outline + notes Thesis: The ideology of the nuclear family has shaped many families throughout the United States. However, it is often the case that for lower classed families of color Kim Family -Pure Korean -immigrated from Korea to the United States in 1996, became American citizens -family of four -both parents work near Los Angeles and live in the suburbs -moved several times due to father’s occupation as a pastor -Parents still maintain the Korean culture, while my brother and I have become Americanized Chris Kim (21) -student at UCSB -older brother -first-born child -expected to take a leadership and mentoring role to my brother John Kim (19) -student at UCLA -younger brother -youngest child Yong Jo Kim (51) -father -former Christian minister for several Korean churches -cultivates and sells wild ginseng -does most of his business with Koreans -primary breadwinner -better at cooking than mom -more traditionally Korean Kum Ju Kim (42) -mother -owns and manages a dry cleaners
