Ashlee Chang Jennifer Gianunzio English 100 12/10/10 Summary/Response "My Plan to Save Network Television" Charlie Hauck Charlie Hauck, television writer and producer, identifies a growing problem in his industry--old people permitted to watching television. Many shows in today's society are aimed towards the younger generation, along with advertisements. Hauck brings up that advertisers don't want to attempt changing the minds of hardheaded old people, rather, the minds of the younger generation--and "opportunity audience." He sees the elder audience as a threat to the well-being to network television, and proposes a solution to the problem: old people should not be permitted to watch television at all. Elders should not complain about this decision because the youthful generation does not complain about elders living in age-restricted communities where the new generation aren't allowed. Besides, old people have other activities to do rather than watch television, such as Sudoku. Hauck states that old people would be allowed to watch
