Jane Student Viewing Dance Falling into Place The MFA Dance Concert titled Falling Into Place consisted of five separate dances, choreographed by five different choreographers from The Graduate Dance Group. They were each very different in the messages that were trying to be conveyed but still similar in certain aspects of dance such as movements, lighting, and sound. In this paper, I will discuss three of these dances and explain how certain movements conveyed the overall mood and message that I got out of each piece. The first and third dances Threads of Resemblance and Love In Security were narrative pieces that used multiple visual effects that could be tied together to form an overall deeper meaning. Although Threads of Resemblance was a more abstract narrative, it told a story none the less. The last piece of the show, The Magnificent Miracle Club was completely different then the first two in the way that it conveyed meaning. Using much bolder backdrops and setting, it was not a narrative as much as a sequence of events that did not come together until the very end of the piece. All three of the dances that will be analyzed in this paper, incorporated multiple aspects of modern dance that we have previously discussed in class. In Threads of Resemblance by Erin Scheiwe we see a narrative about different stages of a woman’s life. Spot lights are utilized in directing your attention to each new dancer as they appear, as well as videos of hands grasping each other in certain positions appearing on a screen used as the backdrop. Each of these helps to convey this transition of each stage of life, as do the colors of the dresses worn by each dancer. These colors seem to be the same as the ones that make up the quilt on the lap of the older woman

located center stage, as well as the colors used in each of the pictures of hands viewed on the backdrop. First off, there is a lime green Tinkerbelle looking color worn by the young girl with her hair in a ponytail, who dances around with what seems to be a youthful joy. She incorporates high, middle, and low positions along with many turns, leg kicks and jumps to show this exuberance that once was of the lady center stage. While she is dancing the first image on the backdrop appears of two hands cusped together, seemingly meaning
