Question (8) 1. What types of processing hardware are used with client-server systems? A client-server system involves multiple computers connected in a network. Some of these computers are designed as clients. Another computers are designed as servers. Client and server computers can be mainframes or microcomputers. Because of cost, microcomputers are mostly used. 2. How many servers can a client server system have? What restrictions apply to the servers? It can have multiple servers. Each server must process a different database in order for the system to be considered a client-server system. 3. Define the terms partitioned and replicated as they pertain to distributed database applications? Partitioned: A portion of distributed database. Replicated: Databases that are distributed on more than one computer. 4. What is the purpose of two-phase commit?
