Duration i. Strong relationships has high duration ii. Spend lots of time together (duration and frequency go together) iii. Example 1. Long distance relationship a. High duration low frequency c. Frequency i. Strong relationship has high frequency, spend lots of time together and see each other frequently enduring relationships has these two simultaneously d. Revelation i. You tell your partner things you wouldn’t tell anyone else ii. Example 1. After 3 year relationship your partner knows a. Things about you, your friends don’t even know b. Family secrets e. Meshing i. You fit together yall mesh ii. In an enduring relationship it isn’t awkward 1. I pay the bills you take out the trash f. Mutually interdependent i. You need each other you cant accomplish what you want to without each other

You’ve been together 2 years, every so often you really just need your partner to be around you, when you fail every midterm h. Proximity i. Physical 1. Imagine a relationship where you will never live on the same continent that crazy, you have to have a proximity to your partner ii. Psychological 1. Emotional proximity 2. Example a. Skype when a person is far away skyping creates better proximity than a phone call or email. Creates a psychological proximity. Its like being there i. Relationships are systematic i. When you fix one thing, you can mess something else up ii. Example 1. You dump your gf and sometimes your entire network changes j. Momentum and trajectory i. Momentum: 2 years of dating assume they are a pair when one come the other is coming two. People arnt surprised when they get engaged ii. Trajectory: you know where ya’ll are going, relationships need this to, someday well have kids, we’ll be grandparents together k. Ritual and reciprocity i. Ritual: at the movie the guy yawns and puts his arm around you ii. Wedding: weddings are the way of celebrating the beginning iii. Rituals are incredibly important to the relationship iv. Reciprocity 1. Your parents fight everytime about when to leave for the airport a. This is almost reassuring
