We have noted in class that an apology is a speech one gives on one’s own behalf. Socrates’ apology is, therefore, an account of himself. Do you think his account is accurate? Socrates’ Apology Was Socrates’ account accurate?- take a side What distinguishes Socrates’ account of himself from the other narratives of the self that we’ve encountered in this course? Consider comparing and/or contrasting Socrates’’ self-understanding with Odysseus, Oedipus, Lear, and/or Alcibiades. You might also consider such themes as telling the truth about oneself, knowing oneself, caring for oneself, and transforming oneself.
