Bagas Aji Prasetyo C1H018030 Factual Review Ch.9 1. Define the term leadership. Answer: Leadership has many different definitions because it can apply to athletics, education, business, industry, military, and several other fields. When applied to total quality, it is the ability to inspire people to create a voluntary, willing, and total commitment to accomplish or exceed organizational goals and to form a worthy vision. 2. Explain the concept of a good leader. Answer: Good leaders share 6 characteristics: a balanced commitment, positive role model, good communication skills, positive influence, and persuasiveness. 3. How can one distinguish between leaders and misleader? Answer: A leader is a person who possesses the qualities stated in the previous question and a misleader is someone who only dress, act, and communicate like leaders. For example, Barack Obama was a great leader of our country. Adolf Hitler was a great misleader. He acted charismatic and looked like a leader, but he saw his leadership as a privilege of frank and lacked integrity. 4. Describe and debunk three common myths about leadership. Answer: Leaders are born, not made: Some people believe that there are natural born leaders and that it is an inherited trait, but this is untrue. Leadership can be learned (120). Leaders are charismatic: Some people believe that all leaders are charismatic. This is not true. For example, Donald Trump is currently the leader of the United States of America, but he is not charismatic at all. Recent news reports have stated he speaks at a 4th grade level. Leaders don’t need to be learning: It is important for leaders to constantly be learning. When leaders learn more, they become better leaders. 5. List and briefly explain the principles of leadership. Answer: Customer Focus: Meeting or exceeding both internal and external customer expectations should be the primary objective. Obsession with Quality: The pursuit of quality should be consistently and aggressively attempted.
