Bagas Aji Prasetyo C1H018030 TQM Assignment Chapter 8 1. Define the term empowerment, being sure to distinguish between involvement and empowerment. Answer: Employee involvement and employee empowerment are very similar concepts. Employees who are emotionally, intellectually, and physically involved will become dedicated, motivated, and empowered employees if they are given ownership of their jobs. Giving ownership to employees will enable them to take pride in the work they do. Ownership is the key element when differentiating involved and empowered employees. 2. Explain the following statement: “Successful implementation of empowerment requires change in the corporate culture.” Answer: This statement essentially means that there must be a change in corporate culture in order to implement employee empowerment. The environment must be nonthreatening, open, and creative. The environment must also demand employees to think, appreciate the value of employees, and reward them for ownership of products, processes, and services. 3. Give a brief rationale for empowerment. Answer: To improve an organization’s competitiveness, employees must take initiative and think creatively. When employees are empowered, they will take initiative and think creatively. The organization will see greater productivity, quality, decisions, and ideas. All of these factors are derived from employee empowerment and will lead to growth of an organization’s competitiveness. 4. What is the relationship between empowerment and motivation? Answer: Empowerment can be so effective in helping maintain a high level of motivation among employees. It helps employees develop a sense of ownership of their job and of the company. This, in turn, leads to a greater willingness on the part of employees to make decisions,
