BIO 119 McCague File-017 Exercise V Purpose: 1. To study the macroscopic morphology of a calf heart. 2. To study the three kinds of muscle. Materials: 1. Intact calf hearts (1 per pair of partners) 2. Instruments for dissecting. 3. Dissecting trays. 4. Prepared slides of 3 kinds of muscle. 5. Stethescopes. 6. Sphigmomannometers. Procedure: A. Examination and dissection of calf heart 1. Examine the external structures of the calf heart. Identify: auricles, ventricles, venae cavae, aorta, pulmonary veins, pericardium, coronary vessels. Draw. 2. Open each ventricle. Identify which is the right and which the left ventricle. Open up the atria and find the coronary sinus opening into the right atrium. Identify the Bicuspid and tricuspid valves, chordae tendineae, papillary muscles, and interventricular septum. Cut down in both the pulmonary vein or aorta until the valves can be seen plainly. Compare the aortic and pulmonary valves. Note the openings of the coronary artery in the aorta just above the aortic valves. Make as many drawings a necessary to indicate that you understand the structures
