Caitlin McGowan QU 101 – Section 69 TuTh 3:30-4:45 Prof. Engelsgaard October 27, 2010 Community Event #3 Debate on Lowering the Drinking Age Currently in the United States, you have to be at least twenty-one years old in order to purchase or consume alcohol. The subject lowering the drinking age has been a long-standing controversial issue that has been debated for many years in the U.S. This past Thursday, I attended a debate at Quinnipiac University on this topic. At the debate I learned about the dangers and long-term damage alcohol has been proven to do on the body but is my personal belief that the drinking laws in this country are not fair and the age requirement should be lowered. In other countries around the world if you are under the age of twenty-one you can drink alcohol. Some countries don't even have an age limit, but in America you have to be twenty-one to buy alcohol. You can go to war and die for your country when you are eighteen, you can also vote, purchase tobacco, but you cannot buy alcohol. I learned
