Caitlin McGowan EN101 – Section 75 Professor Kegler October 12, 2010 Plans of Life What is a plan of life? A life plan consists of goals, core values, relationships, careers, education, location, and interests. Everybody dreams about where he or she wants to be in their future and what they want to be doing. I remember being a little girl and planning out my fantasy wedding. Today there are certain expectations for members of our society to accomplish. Appiah talks about two types of goals, long-term and short-term. A long-term goal is a central focus of an individual such as graduating college. Short-term goals help lead up to long-term goals such as getting a good grade on an exam. These small accomplishments are similar to stepping stairs; each step is helping you get closer and closer to your destination of preference. There is a set “normal” plan of life that an individual living in this generation is supposed to follow. Society believes that you should go to college, get a job, get married, and have kids. If you do not follow those steps you are wrong. The reality is that each important step leads to another, if you skip one it is almost impossible to go on to the next one. The first step is to get into college. I believe college is great and I cannot wait to graduate and begin my adult life. College helps expand your skills and knowledge. It prepares you for a career in the future. You also increase your understanding of your community and the world. Currently, I am a mathematics major hoping to get into the 5-Year MAT program so I can get my masters in education. It has always been my dream to become a teacher. I feel that I owe it to myself to remain in college, get an education, and graduate. To fully complete the college step
