Prototyping-"Approach that defines an initial list of user requirements, builds a prototype system, and then improves the system in several iterations based on users’ feedback" (Rainer & Turban, 2009, p. 319, Glossary). Advantages of prototyping is that promotes participation and development of relationships between users and developers. Prototyping also clarifies user requirements and verifies fesibility of design. Finally prototyping may produce part of the final system (Rainer & Turban, 2009). Rapid Applications Development (RAD)-"A development method that uses special tools and an iterative approach to rapidly produce a high- quality system" (Rainer & Turban, 2009, p. 319, Glossary). An advantage of RAD is that it makes it possible to develop systems faster (Rainer & Turban, 2009). Joint Applications Design (JAD)-" A group-based tool for collecting user requirements and creating system designs" (Rainer & Turban, 2009,

Unformatted text preview: p. 319, Glossary). The advantages of JAD are there are many people working on the system, which increases support for the system and the quality of the training process, thereby reducing it (Rainer & Turban, 2009). Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)-"Traditional structured framework, used for large IT projects, that consists of sequential processes by which information systems are developed" (Rainer & Turban, 2009, p. 319, Glossary). The advantages of SDLC are control, accountability, and error detection (Rainer & Turban, 2009). Each of these methodologies has its advantages, however I think that the one that would prove most beneficial to an IT manager would be SDLC simply because the advantages of SDLC outweigh those of the other methodologies (Rainer & Turban, 2009).
